Land Tejas Raises Nearly $40,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association
HOUSTON, January 15, 2005 – Land Tejas’ First Annual MDA Golf Classic was held Monday, November 15 at Stone Gate’s Houston National Golf Club. The 27-hole course hosted over 180 golfers, and raised nearly $40,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Tournament players raised much-needed funds for MDA. The money raised will be used to send kids to MDA summer camp as well as pay for valuable research.
Players spent the day socializing with their fellow professionals while testing their golf skill on Houston National’s challenging greens. Once the tournament was over the players enjoyed a cocktail party, dinner and silent auction.
Players bid on a 42” HD Plasma TV, a 22” LCD TV, a dinner for four at the Petroleum Club, a Callaway golf bag, a baseball signed by Houston Astro Brandon Backe, a golf etiquette book, a golf gift basket, and a round of golf for four plus a $50 gift certificate at Houston National Golf Club.
Players were also able to enter in a drawing to take a shot to win a $350,000 home or a $60,000 Chevrolet Corvette. Five players were chosen to take a hole-in-one shot, four for the Corvette and one for the home.
Steven Buxbaum, a partner in the Houston office of Haynes and Boone LLP, shot a 180-yard hole-in-one at a golf tournament and won a Chevrolet Corvette. Buxbaum, a native Houstonian who lives in the Memorial area, was the first of four golfers from the tournament selected to attempt the hole-in-one contest. The Houston resident sank his first-ever ace with a five iron on the ninth hole of the Houston National Golf Club.
“It was an amazing feat to have a hole-in-one at our first large golf tournament at Houston National”, said Al Brende, co-founder of Land Tejas Companies. “We are looking forward to the same surprising success for our future tournaments”
