STONE GATE - Houston National Golf Course weaves throughout community

HOUSTON, August 25, 2004 – Stone Gate’s Houston National Golf Course has been active the last few years. The first series of 18-holes has been expanded to include a total of 27-holes for players to choose from. The golf course is not all that is expanding, the pro-shop is debuting its restaurant and bar this September.

One of the greatest reasons for the courses success is its functionality during the rainy season. During hurricane Allison, the course was drenched with over 9 inches of rain in one day. The following day it was open for play, and the day after carts were off the cart path. The drainage is one of many of the Houston National Golf Course advantages.

“Houston National Golf Course has been the backbone for our Stone Gate development. It has provided a pleasant backdrop for many of the homes,” say Al Brende, co-founder of Land Tejas.

The #2 golf course in Houston, determined by the USGA course ratings, also has ripe greens. The popular greens even allow some of the poorest putters to sink one. Between each green is a battlefield of lush fairways. Each fairway is defined by moguls, which give Houston National a distinctive links look. These moguls might seem odd to some, but are saviors to many homeowners and the occasional golfer slice.

The course, designed by golf-course architect Robert von Hagge, additionally boasts a driving range with hitting areas on both ends, practice pitching green, practice fairway bunkers, and practice putting green.

Houston National is located at 16500 Houston National Blvd. Take Highway 290 west past Highway 6. Exit at Barker –Cypress Road. Turn left and go about one mile to the entrance into Stone Gate at Queenston Road. Course ahead one mile on the left.
